Academician Wael al-Zard obtained his master's degree in the science of Hadith in 2001, and then his doctorate from Ain Shams University in Cairo. He worked as an academic lecturer at the University College of Applied Sciences, and previously at the Open University of Jerusalem and the Islamic University of Gaza. He was also the imam of the Great Omari Mosque in the Old City of Gaza.
