Al-Aqsa University is a scientifically and academically independent public institution supervised by an independent board of trustees that decides its policies and assumes its responsibilities. According to the Higher Education Law No. 6 of 2018 and the regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the university aims to spread knowledge, deepen its roots, and serve and develop Palestinian society within the framework of a philosophy based on national concepts and the heritage of Arab and Islamic civilization.
Al-Aqsa University began in 1955 as a teachers' institute under the administration of the Egyptian government. In 1991, the institute evolved into a college, known as the College of Governmental Education. Since then, the college has grown gradually in its educational plans, scientific departments, professors, and students. It has graduated many teachers and researchers with high scientific and educational competence from bachelor's, bachelor's and doctoral degrees, through the joint postgraduate program with Ain Shams University. At the beginning of the academic year 2000/2001, the college was transformed into Al-Aqsa University.
The university currently has ten faculties, namely: Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Media, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Management and Finance, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Faculty of Computers and Information Technology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Al-Aqsa University Community College for Intermediate Studies, knowing that Al-Aqsa University is the only university in the Gaza Strip that grants a bachelor's degree in media, arts, physical education and sports.
Since its establishment, the university has played a pivotal role in rehabilitating and developing most of the local community's resources and resources, especially human resources, through the university's specialized educational, research and training programs in the fields of information technology and science, in the fields of politics, administration and economics, in the fields of education and teacher training, and in the fields of media and sports. All this to serve the Palestinian society and contribute to its economic and social development.
The university is located in Gaza City and Khan Younis.
Gaza branch:
The campus is located in the southern sand area of Gaza, south of the Agency's headquarters buildings and east of the Islamic University campus, bordered on the west by Mustafa Hafez Street.
The area of the Gaza campus is about 17.9 dunums, which includes buildings, facilities, services, green spaces, parking lots, and streets for movement.
The campus includes 7 buildings, ranging from classroom buildings to administrative and service buildings.
Khan Younis Branch:
The campus is located in the Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, near Asdaa Media Production City.
The campus includes buildings, facilities, services, green spaces, parking lots, open playgrounds, and streets for movement.
The campus includes 24 buildings, ranging from classrooms to administrative and service buildings.
Al-Aqsa Community College in Khan Younis:
Al-Aqsa Community College's campus is located in Khan Younis, Gaza, with an area of about 1.65 dunums, including buildings, facilities, services, and green spaces interspersed with streets for movement. The campus includes classrooms, maintenance workshops, and a cafeteria.
Al-Aqsa Community College in Gaza:
Located in Khan Younis, the Gaza campus covers an area of about 5.4 dunums and includes buildings, facilities, services, green spaces, parking lots, and streets. The campus includes a classroom building, a cafeteria building, and a library.
