نبذة عامة

The idea of establishing the University of Gaza began with a group of Palestinian activists in 2005. On July 18, 2007, the university received its initial license to become a new higher education institution, accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. On January 27, 2008, the university received general accreditation.

تفاصيل التأسيس والتمويل
The idea of establishing a university in the Gaza Strip was initiated by a group of Palestinian activists in 2005, and construction began on the university's buildings and facilities on its own land in the Tel al-Hawa area of Gaza City. At the same time, the university's licensing and accreditation procedures were initiated by the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

On July 18, 2007, the University of Gaza received the initial license to become a new higher education institution accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. On January 27, 2008, the university received general accreditation, becoming a new higher education institution starting in the 2008/2009 academic year, and then the university received special accreditation for its faculties and declared programs.

The university was destroyed in this war, in December 2023, through aerial targeting by occupation planes. The main campus in the Zeitoun neighborhood was completely destroyed, and four buildings were partially destroyed.

The university's branch in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza was also bombed, raided and completely destroyed. Its branch in Khan Younis was also bombed, raided and completely destroyed.

استهداف وتدمير جامعة غزة

تعرضت الجامعة للتدمير في هذه الحرب، في شهر ديسمبر 2023، عبر استهداف جوي من طائرات الاحتلال. وأدى الاستهداف إلى تدمير الحرم الرئيسي في حي الزيتون كلياً، و4 أبنية جزئياً. 

كما تعرض فرع الجامعة في بيت لاهيا بشمال غزة للقصف والمداهمة والتدمير الكامل. ومثله فرعها في خانيونس.
