تفاصيل التأسيس والتمويل
The University of Palestine was established by a decision of the late President Yasser Arafat in 2003, and began practicing its role with its local counterparts in early March 2005 in Gaza City, by processing the accreditation files of colleges and programs.

Under President Mahmoud Abbas, the university was allocated 30 dunums of land in the city of Zahraa in the center of the Gaza Strip.

The university obtained the initial license and then the general accreditation of the university on 15/07/2007, according to the requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Commission for Accreditation and Quality in Higher Education, until it obtained the final accreditation of its faculties and programs in 2008, with the certificate of registration of a higher education institution No. HE1C/02/13/2008. Work was still ongoing with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to obtain final accreditation for the rest of its faculties.

During this period, the university was able to complete some of its facilities in the Al-Khwarizmi Building and the Muneeb Al-Masri Building, until work stopped on the construction of the remaining buildings in the University of Palestine University City according to the concepts and plans developed by the university for its buildings due to the conditions of the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip and the prevention of construction materials from entering Gaza.
الرواية أثناء حرب الإبادة

On January 18, 2024, the occupation forces completely blew up the university buildings in southern Gaza, and a video broadcast by Israeli channels and websites showed the moment the occupation army blew up the university buildings. Israeli websites and newspapers affiliated with the occupation showed that such operations, such as bombing universities or educational institutions, require special approval from the army chief of staff, and in return, after demands from the United States of America, to provide explanations from Israel regarding the bombing of the University of Palestine building, the office of the Chief of Staff and the Southern Command in the Israeli occupation army claimed that they did not know about the university bombing except from the media, and said that the bombing came without obtaining the required approval for that.

On March 13, 2024, the Israeli occupation army announced that the commander of the 99th Division, General Barak Hiram, was formally reprimanded for bombing a university in the Gaza Strip earlier, without obtaining the necessary permission, according to the Times of Israel. According to the newspaper's report, the reprimand came as a result of the bombing of Israa University.

When the occupation army blew up the university's entire building in Zahraa city on April 1, 2024, the university issued a statement condemning the occupation's action. It emphasized that "the Israeli targeting of the university comes as a continuation of the aggressive Israeli scene that has targeted all higher education institutions in the Gaza Strip." The statement added that: "The destruction of the university's headquarters in Zahra city and before that the complete destruction of the Khan Younis branch is a crime and a clear violation of all international laws, charters and norms that protect educational and academic institutions, and the University of Palestine emphasizes that its campus and headquarters are a civilian educational facility." In its statement, the university emphasized its determination: "It will continue to fulfill its duties towards its students," emphasizing that it "will work with all parties to restore the role and mission of the university." She also urged "all concerned international organizations to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for committing this heinous crime."
